The following template description is not displayed when the template is inserted in an article.

Goal

This infobox is used to summarize the key points of an aircraft, spacecraft, vehicle, or seacraft. The focus is on FlightGear – the template is not designed to replicate the content of the corresponding Wikipedia article. If a graphic is present – either a hangar logo or screenshot – the infobox will be set to a width of 300 px.

Usage

For instructions on how to use this template in a translation-friendly way, please see the #Translations - using subpages section below.

All parameters are optional.

Basic data

Caution  For multi-part parameters using / separators, these are limited by the constraints of the Mediawiki #titleparts: function. Therefore a maximum of 25 elements and 255 characters are allowed. Links, URLs, or underscores are not supported, so a number of alternative numbered parameters are provided. If you have other requirements, please discuss this on the discussion page.
name
The name of the aircraft. This will be displayed at the top of the infobox.
hangar
The optional aircraft hangar. This adds the hangar logo at 300 px or text and a link for the hanger, automatically creates development repository and download links for hangars which support this, and adds a hangar specific category to the article. This can currently be one of fgaddon, buckaroo, fguk, helijah, herbyw, lake of constance, paf.
aircraft
The name of the aircraft in the hangar. This is only used if the hangar parameter is supplied. For FGAddon, this corresponds to the aircraft directory in $FG_AIRCRAFT/Aircraft/<aircraft-dir>. For other hangars, this is currently unused.
image
Screenshot of the aircraft without the File: or Image: prefix. The graphic will be set to a width of 300 px.
alt
Caption for the screenshot.
image2
Additional screenshot without the File: or Image: prefix (preferably a cockpit screenshot). The graphic will be set to a width of 300 px.
alt2
Caption for the second screenshot.
type
The type of aircraft, spacecraft, vehicle, or seacraft. Although this can be any text, special parameter values, independent of capitalisation, will be associated with a category. This will result in the automatic addition of a internal wiki link to the category in the infobox as well as appending the category to the article. See the Craft types section below for a table of values. Multiple values for the parameter can be supplied when each type is separated by /. For example | type = Civil utility aircraft/Military utility aircraft.
config
The configuration of the aircraft, spacecraft, vehicle, or seacraft. Although this can be any text, special parameter values, independent of capitalisation, will be associated with a category. This will result in the automatic addition of a internal wiki link to the category in the infobox as well as appending the category to the article. See the Craft configurations section below for a table of values. Multiple values for the parameter can be supplied when each configuration is separated by /. For example | config = Biplane aircraft/Delta-wing aircraft.
propulsion
The aircraft, spacecraft, vehicle, or seacraft propulsion. Although this can be any text, special parameter values, independent of capitalisation, will be associated with a category. This will result in the automatic addition of a internal wiki link to the category in the infobox as well as appending the category to the article. See the Craft propulsion section below for a table of values. Multiple values for the parameter can be supplied when each value is separated by /. For example | propulsion = Twin-engined aircraft/Propeller aircraft.
manufacturer
The aircraft, spacecraft, vehicle, or seacraft manufacturer. Although this can be any text, special parameter values, independent of capitalisation, will be associated with a category. This will result in the automatic addition of a internal wiki link to the category in the infobox as well as appending the category to the article. See the Craft manufacturer section below for a table of values. Multiple values for the parameter can be supplied when each value is separated by /. For example | manufacturer = Boeing/Rockwell.
authors
The list of aircraft authors. The special slash character / can be used to separate authors, for example: | fgname = me/you, resulting in each author being placed on a separate line. The / character cannot be used within a single author element so instead the , or & separating characters should be used.
author{1-30}
Optional aircraft authors to add to the list. These should be given in order from author1 upwards. This bypasses the Mediawiki #titleparts: function, allowing for the author name to be a link.
devel-team
The optional name of the development team. If this parameter is supplied, then the author list will be packed into a collapsible element that is, by default, not shown but has a [Expand] link to see the authors.
fdm
The Flight Dynamics Model of the aircraft. If one of the values of JSBSim, YASim, UIUC, or LaRCsim are supplied, independent of capitalisation, then an automatic link to the corresponding wiki page will be created. Multiple values for the parameter can be supplied when each type is separated by /, for example | type = UIUC/YASim/JSBSim/magic carpet.
fgname
The name(s) of the aircraft to use when launching FlightGear from the command line. If multiple aircraft in different *-set.xml files are available, each name should be separated by the slash character /. For example | fgname = dhc6/dhc6F/dhc6S
fgname{1-10}
An alternative way to specify the fgname, if the Mediawiki #titleparts: function is problematic. This is necessary if there are underscores in the name.
status-fdm
The status of the Flight Dynamics Model. For details, please see below.
status-systems
The status of the systems For details, please see below.
status-cockpit
The status of the cockpit For details, please see below.
status-model
The status of the external model For details, please see below.
status
The fall-back status text, if none of the other status-* parameters are set. This corresponds to the old Aircraft rating system.
ready
Add icons to display certain capabilities supported by the aircraft. Please see the #Ready icons section below for details.
devel-hangar
The hangar where aircraft developments occur. This is similar to the hangar parameter, and will add the hangar banner to the infobox. The aim is to point readers to the hangar responsible for the current developments, so as to minimise duplicated developments.
devel-website
The URL for the development website.
devel-repo
The URL for the development repository. If the hangar parameter is supplied, the development link may be automatically created. Note that hardcoded URLs should be avoided where ever possible and the family of repository link templates should be used instead.
development
Depreciated. This has been replaced by the devel-repo parameter.
download
The URL for downloading the aircraft. If the hangar parameter is supplied, the download link may be automatically created. For repository snapshots, please avoid hardcoded URLs and instead use the family of repository link templates.
liverydbid
The livery database ID of the aircraft.
forumtid
The FlightGear forum topic ID for the aircraft. This is the number after the t= part of the URL.
license
Also licence. This will add licensing information to the infobox. Please see the #Licensing section below for a list of special values.
note
A special note to show within a {{note}} message box at the end of the aircraft infobox.
craft
The craft type, defaulting to aircraft. This can be one of aircraft, spacecraft, vehicle, or seacraft. This will be used to add one of the categories Category:All aircraft, Category:All spacecraft, Category:All vehicles, or Category:All seacraft to the page.
navbar
If this is set to 1, a {{navbar}} element will be added to the very end of infobox. This is very useful when using subpages. It will have the form of . Note that the navbar will point to pages of the form {{PAGENAME}}/info, excluding the language code part of the page name.
navbarlevel
This is used if the navbar parameter is set. It allows for / characters in the base PAGENAME. If a single slash is present, then this should be set to -2.
float
A parameter reserved solely for template developers. This corresponds to the {{Infobox}} float parameter.

Translations - using subpages

When using this template in an article, the use of subpage organisation is recommended for facilitating translations.

Transclusion of the subpage

Instead of transcluding this template directly into the article, the subpage {{PAGENAME}}/info can be created. Using the example of the de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter, to the very start of the article simply add:

{{:{{PAGENAME}}/info}}

For translations, e.g. De/de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter and Fr/de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter, a different syntax is needed to strip out the language prefix from the page name. The text to copy and paste to the top of the article is:

{{:{{#titleparts:{{PAGENAME}}||2}}/info}}

Subpage structure

Then create your {{PAGENAME}}/info multi-language page with, for the example of de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter/info (also see the DHC-6 example below):

<includeonly>{{User:Bugman/User:Bugman/Infobox Aircraft
| name = de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter

| navbar         = 1
}}</includeonly><noinclude>
This is the aircraft infobox subpage of the [[de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter]].
[[Category:Aircraft infobox documentation]]
</noinclude>

The <includeonly> tags prevent the {{PAGENAME}}/info pages from being scattered throughout the Category:Controllable craft subcategories (by temporarily removing or deleting a character in the initial tag, the infobox can be previewed). The <noinclude> tags means that only the {{PAGENAME}}/info page will be added to the Category:Aircraft infobox documentation category.

Note the use of the navbar parameter. This is allows the {{PAGENAME}}/info subpage to be easily accessed from the main article.

For a full translation of the aircraft infobox, a number of templates on top of this one need to be translated:
