FlightGear Newsletter April 2019
We would like to emphasize that the monthly newsletter can not live without the contributions of FlightGear users and developers. Everyone with a wiki account (free to register) is welcome to contribute to the newsletter. If you know about any FlightGear related news or projects such as for example updated scenery or aircraft, please do feel invited to add such news to the newsletter.
In the hangar
The SUMPAC (Southampton University Man Powered Aircraft) has been added to FGADDON. This model is to be used in the FlightGear based simulation being installed at the Solent Sky museum in Southampton England. Currently they are using the DaSH as the model for the SUMPAC. It will be switched out for this one once we have all the mesh detail included and a few other bits of code added. The current FDM is the same as the DaSH but we hope to have a new SUMPAC FDM within a month or two. Another project in the works is a more detailed model of the DaSH to be used in our current DaSH project.
This is a very detailed model that has been converted to be used in FG. So for now there is a persistent GUI choice that defaults to "low detail" as well as a GUI choice for the Mylar skin (version 2 of the original SUMPAC) which also defaults to off. There are still more interior controls mesh to be added to the model.
The Silent2Electro is a motor glider, powered by a 22 KW electric motor. This aircraft has been added to FGADDON (although is still under development).
The Q400 aircraft has been replaced by the Q400 and now is available in FGADDON:
- Q100 (DHC8-102) --aircraft=q100-jsb
- Q200 (DHC8-202) --aircraft=q200-jsb
- Q300 (DHC8-301) --aircraft=q300-jsb
- Q400 (DHC8-402) --aircraft=q400-jsb

Please report any bugs or problems you encounter and have fun :)
Special thanks to Alex Park (original DHC8), Florian K (wonderful 3d-model originally for the Q400), it0uchpods (a LOT of help with the FDM, autoflight, canvas and advisory) and to those I forgot ;)
The 747-400 FDM has once again been updated by Gijs, this time:
- addding more lift data to FDM
- removing duplicate function from FDM
- fixing fuel loading (do not ingore stab tank)
- correcting 'change in lift due to load factor' and add flaps down data

If you want some graphic elements for your FlightGear-related site (such as a hangar or YouTube channel), please feel free to visit FlightGear logos for a repository of logos. And if you have some art skills, please don't hesitate to contribute with your own design creations.
The FlightGear project always needs screenshots, which show features that were added since the last release. These should be of good quality, especially in content and technical image properties. It is therefore recommended to use the best viable filter settings (anti-aliasing, texture sharpening, etc.). More info at Howto:Make nice screenshots.
Screenshot of the Month
If you want to participate in the screenshot contest of May, you can submit your candidate to this forum topic. Be sure to see the first post for participation rules. For purposes of convenience and organization, after all the entries have been submitted, a new forum topic will be started containing all shots in an easy-to-view layout. The voting will then take place there. Once the voting has finished, the best screenshot will be presented in the Newsletter edition of May.
