Howto talk:Edit a livery
Rewrite
I notice that this page doesn't give all that good details in actually editing liveries and seems to be a bit out of date, so I will try and rewrite it into something more helpful for the potential livery artists out there. Johan G 21:26, 1 January 2012 (EST)
- I went a bit bold and replaced the whole article with my own version. For now the handling of the XML files isn't described. Johan G 11:08, 8 January 2012 (EST)
- ...and now I regret it a bit. What's here now is more of a Howto: Create a livery than Howto: Edit a livery. In essence I feel I altered it from how to modify an existing livery into how to create a new one from scratch. :-\ Johan G 03:41, 21 January 2012 (EST)
- You can merge the two. ;)

Quick start section?
Have a look at this topic How do I make custom livery?. How do we best do a very short and quick way, that a complete beginner can get started in just testing to modify an existing livery just for fun, in essence editing the default one without the ambition to make a realistic livery. Is there a specific aircraft in the FlightGear official distribution that is suitable for this? How would one formulate the text? etc. Johan G 12:44, 8 January 2012 (EST)
- The Learjet 35-A doesn't have a nice livery system, haven't come to that, yet. If someone wants to try out editing a livery, the psd files are available for anyone to experiment with. Micro manual here Learjet_35-A#Modify_livery. People that want to create a livery should be able to work with layers. The LJ is not part of the official distribution, yet. Help needed with xml etc.
There is a few things needed to make this page more complete and meaningful. It currently lacks information on how to use the following:
- Livery selection code working over multiplayer.
- Shaders
- Lightmaps
- Bumpmaps
- Rembrandt
Even though some of them are described somewhere else on the wiki a summary on this page would be helpful, as well as a link to the full page.
As I am currently running a rapidly ageing FlightGear on a very crammed computer I'm not in a position to read in and experiment with these things in a way that let me write about them with confidence.

- I don't think any of them belongs here actually. All should be taken care of by the aircraft developer, not the average user that likes to paint a livery, which is the userbase for this article AFAIK...
