Template talk:LangSwitch
Do this template change the way translation is done?
Hi, thanks Johan_G for your work. I would like to know if this template changes the way pages should be translated or I must just follow the instructions here Help:Translate. Thanks. Sa7k (talk) 12:45, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
- Hi,
- the translation process is still the same. This template should only be used in templates that are included on various (translated) pages. By using the switch, we can for example have a single {{News}}, rather than {{Fr/News}}, {{Nl/News}} etc.

- PS: I've just updated {{News}} to use this template, so you can check it for a live example ;-)
- Thanks for bringing this confusion up, so we can clarify it. :-)
- I added a hatnote to the top of Help:Translate with a link to Help:Templates#Translating templates as well as tried to make it more clear in the template's documentation that the template is mainly meant for template translation.
Moving to Lang switch – too late?
While I named this specifically after the template on Wikimedia Commons I mimicked, I do dislike CamelCase titles (I consider them as being less readable), and besides there is no fundamental necessity to follow the naming used on other wikis, as long as our template is properly documented and categorised etc.
I have considered moving this template from Template:LangSwitch, {{LangSwitch}}, to Template:Lang switch, {{lang switch}}.
After having seen What links here though, I am considering not moving this template, as it would require some editing otherwise not needed. At the other hand, if I would wait I would in time pass the point of no return.
Any further thoughts?
P.S. I know I seem very picky, and trust me I know I am. ;-)
