Talk:OpenRadarFeatureWishlist
I love the idea to, - finally, - get an ATC radar client that runs on GNU/Linux. - That is great news! E.g. Radar Clients for VatSim, such as VRC and Euroscope, which are proprietary, have nice features but do not run well on GNU/Linux. I would love to see some of these features to be included into OpenRadar, as it would atract some controllers to join FG. Therefore I propose to "tidy up" the feature request page in the first place to see what is already done, what should be done and what should be discussed. Mcantsin 20:05, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
FeatureWishlist vs Roadmap
Dear Mcantsin, I think we should leave this page as wish list, as many of the proposals have a technical reason against it, or are beyond the next hill for now. A 'roadmap' sounds too much like an agreed set of features. It is important to have feedback, see which features are needed and missed as well as get the feedback, what is not needed or what disturbs. A big issue for OpenRadar, is to get the data needed in good quality and consistent between the open source tools. (for instance the frequencies for FGCom) Restricted by the time I have to spare, I will continue to improve OpenRadar. Already now, there are some parts of the code that are complex, because different asynchronous data sources change data (MP protocol messages, METAR, repaint events, user interactions). It is important to keep the coding maintainable, extend-able and far from starting to live by itself. So it is healthy to implement what is needed and omit golden edges were possible. I guess you made similar experiences... WagnerW 19:01, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
