Flightgear Virtual Airline Merger Program
NOTE : There is currently a debate as to whether all existing FlightGear Virtual airlines be merged into one airline. See this topic.
Atlas Virtual Airlines was borne out of the concept that a VA merger could elminate underpopulation and help consolidate the number of virtual airlines into one, unified VA. In early April 2010, Atlas Virtual, after months of planning, went live to the public. Thus, the number of virtual airlines was substantially reduced, leaving the number of active VAs at 3. As of April 2010, these include Transgear Airways, Star Alliance, and Atlas.

The following aspects of the proposed unified Virtual Airline have been decided.

*Transgear Airways and Atlas are considered "sister VAs", and work side by side during events. Plans call for a combined TGA-AVA event, and at the moment, each airline helps the other.

* Triangle Airlines
Inactive Airlines
The term "inactive" is debated on the forums. Here, deserting of the website and/or operations are defined as inactive.
* Gisi Airlines
* Americair
* Detra Airlines
* Air San Francisco
As the concept of virtual airlines is fairly new, it is unknown how active these virtual airlines are. Some are fairly active, including Skynet International, Coastal Air Systems or Euroair, or are inactive (decommisioned), such as Air San Francisco and Americair.

Virtual Airlines also benefit the flight simulator community by providing valuable services such as ATC, events, and general help and knowledge.
