June 2026

We would like to emphasize that the monthly newsletter cannot live without the contributions of FlightGear users and developers. Everyone with a wiki account (free to register) is welcome to contribute to the newsletter. If you know about any FlightGear related news or projects such as for example updated scenery or aircraft, please do feel invited to add such news to the newsletter.

The Visual Editor makes editing the wiki as simple as using a Word-processor, and even easier than using the forum as you don't even need to know the syntax for a url. Just hit the 'edit' link and start.

Development news

You can now report and track FGAddon (launcher) aircraft bugs over in the Aircraft bugs project, on the FlightGear bug tracker! If there is already an existing bug tracker or repository for an aircraft, we would prefer if issues were reported there instead. But if you are in doubt, create an issue and we can triage it and forward it on to the appropriate place, if that is not the FGAddon tracker. A link to the bug tracker can be found on the left of every wiki page, and at the top of every forum page. If you have a spare hour or 2, and fancy getting involved, we would love for you to come on over, choose an issue, and have a crack at fixing it!

Development of NEW Spanish aircraft: HISPANO AVIACIÓN HA-200 SAETA

Hispano Aviación HA-200 Saeta en desarrollo por Manuel ACE

After publishing my first aircraft (the Hispano Suiza HS-42), I have decided to continue building Spanish airplanes for FlightGear, so I’ve started the development of the HISPANO AVIACIÓN HA-200 SAETA. My intention is to add it soon to the official FlightGear repositories for 2024.1.

Current status:

  • Custom 3D model.
  • Custom FDM (Yasim), based on numerous realistic parameters obtained from the original manual.
  • The cockpit is yet to be developed (initially, I will only focus on the pilot's station).
  • Landing gear animations are now functional.
  • Texture work is already well advanced.

Thanks to Helijah for his Fouga Magister, which served as inspiration to get started on this HA-200 Saeta.

Development of the Spanish CASA C-101 / A-36 HALCÓN continues!

CASA C-101 en desarrollo por Manuel ACE

I took over the development of the Construcciones Aeronáuticas S.A. (CASA) C-101 Aviojet / A-36 Halcón, a major project started back in 2013 by Pavel Cueto and Fernando Espinosa. To do this, I used the latest C-101 published and improved by Warty on the Flightgear's forum as a starting point—an excellent base with a nice FDM. The aircraft contained some obsolete elements, and since its development was abruptly interrupted, other features were left incomplete or bugged.

Following the personal challenge of troubleshooting errors, reorganizing files, and adding new features, I am glad to inform you that the C-101 is highly advanced, and my intention is to add it soon to the official FlightGear repositories for 2024.1.

Main work already done and/or practically completed:

  • TOTAL REORGANIZATION of files and folders.
  • Subdivision of the EB, BB, and CC versions, including prototypes and early series with the rounded nose cone.
  • Bug fixes in several cockpit systems and gauges.
  • Engine smoke effects.
  • Revamped lighting system and added nose formation lights.
  • 3D model tweaks (center fuselage shape; smoother leading edges; improved nose gear and suspension).
  • New cockpit animations. Some clickable buttons (currently only in the front seat).
  • New smoke system featuring white, red, and yellow colors.
  • Updated effects, reflections, and materials.
  • New textures and a review of previous ones.
  • Enabled cannon firing in armed versions, including recoil effect.

And many more details...
