LILO-LOWI-Adrenaline Challenge

LILO-LOWI-Adrenaline - Global Map-2-scaled.png

What / Why / How / Where / When

LILO-LOWI-Adrenaline is a parcour one can fly for plane controls “Learn and Training”.
What / Why / How / Where / When

The idea being: One learn always more stepping outside the "comfort-zone".

LILO-LOWI-Adrenaline parcour
brings pilots to practice in extreme situations this resulting then in having more ease in normal situations.

What / Why / How / Where / When

It is an 11 stages parcour flown at very low "altitude" along a path "tagged" by inflatable cones "Red Bull Race" style.

The 1st stage is very easy, but difficulty go increasing ongoing with Stages.

It is expected the pilots to re-use in next Stages the skills learned and trained in prior Stages.

Pilots will train to :

1 - Observe around to "spot" the tagging Cones
2 - Control climb or descend while banking
3 - Manage speed for temperamental viragos
4 - Check speed and fly in spirals to climb big cliffs or mountain sides
5 - Manage flight path to keep clearance for urgent U-turns ... away from hill sides
6 - Bush land on Altidrome and Altiport ... then take off !
7 - Manage plane payload keeping it just as low as required for current stage
8 - Slide or Crab to start and maintain difficult viragos
9 - Anticipate the flight trajectory
10 - Slalom around Cones with 3 increasing levels of difficulty
11 - Land gloriously at Insbrueck Kranebite

00 - Of course, one always may simply fly the parcour in a simple manner just for the sake of the fun.

In all cases, Adrenaline Rush guaranteed !
Stage 1:
STAGE 1 - from "LILO" to "Altiport 'Passo Tonalle' / Fasten your belt ! "
What / Why / How / Where / When

Tyrolean Alps - North Italy - Austria

Start @ [ LILO ] - Sondrio Caiolo
Ends @ [ LOWI ] - Insbrueck Kranebite

Duration ~ 2 1/2 hours (total En Route time / airborne) (for a plane able to fly at 140 kts)

The challenge may be interrupted and resumed at/from a few places. You need to special Flightgear Scenario.
ITALY, Sondrio Caiolo, ICAO Code: LILO

What / Why / How / Where / When

let's get it booked !
Booking is only advised if in multplayer ...

actually, LILO-LOWI-Adrenaline may be run by anyone - anytime - freely.

However, for the sake of the fun, multiplayer mode is advised.

At development time, I have flown the parcour several time with friends and beta testers
who told they found it quite addictive.

It's up to you!
(read the additional notes and the "how to" below for more...)

An interactive Calendar is in development...

 NOTES

* LILO-LOWI-Adrenaline is not a race against “other pilots” nor an around the clock race. It is a race against yourself!

* LILO-LOWI-Adrenaline took seven months to design, test, and made be available to all

HOW TO get started ?

I. - Some important Technical Considerations, please, keep reading:

Flying low, close to the ground, demand more "graphical computation", more graphical performance" than usual.
Why? Here an example to help to understand:
       - You sit in a moving train, you look outside, there are trees, some close to the train, some away from the train.
The trees that are away seems to "move" slower
The trees that are close seems to "move" very faster

In Flightgear, the same thing does happen, flying close to the ground cause objects to be recomputed more intensively.

       Worse...
Flying close to the ground demand very fast pilot reactions.
A stuttering or non fluid animation will kill the player awareness. It is just not 0K.

1. Requisite : a graphically good performance computer
2. Requisite : graphical settings set to avoid "extra computational weight"

Tests have been run by beta testers using medium and low performance computers.
       - The LILO-LOWI-Adrenaline scenario have been prepared accordingly.
       - and Flightgear ideal settings have been tested too and are also made available.
(Note the optimum settings also contemplate questions like colour contrast for rapid and easy awareness)
II. - The ideal and non ideal plane ...

       Stiff climbs ...
At some place you have to climb 3700 feet in a very short distance. A simple Cessna 172 may prove not very handy for.

Altiports, Altidromes and Bush landing ...
Landing in grass or gravel strips or plateaux may prove difficult for planes with small tires or weak engines.

       The "Beaver" ...
Staying inside what FG already have, my most satisfying choice have been the "Beaver", the DHC2.
One may consider to map some keyboard keys or device to be able to pump pressure in the fuel system without stopping to "have an eye" on Terrain (Ground and Mountains)
       (help provided for this later)
III. - Explanation of the Stages and the Expected Flying Manoeuvres ...

Each Stage is explained with great deal of detail through videos, pictures and pdf.

They are quite large and are hosted externally on the "Moohw" website.
       (Links provided below.)
       Important !

The moohw website is not an "new divergence" from FGF!
Flightgear Webs, Wiki and Forum and terrasync mirrors remain the main places.

Moohw website is used solely to provide media functionalities not working in the FG wiki as wished and in order to spare expensive resources.

       Privacy
The moohw website is a resource totally private, however soon more freely accessible.
The website does not collect data at all to respect privacy questions nor track users behaviours.
       (...as it should be.)
