The following template description is not displayed when the template is inserted in an article.
Goal
This template can be used on pages that are outdated or deprecated but still kept for historical reference.
Adding this template to a page will automatically add Category:Historical pages to that page.
Usage
{{historical | type = | tense = | text = | reason = | talk = | date = 2 November 2024 | nocat = }}
All parameters are optional.
- type
- Type of page. For defaults see the {{namespace}} template. Also useful for demonstrative purposes.
- tense
- Grammatical tense of text. Defaults to is.
- text
- Other text than outdated.
- reason
- Short reason for why the page is considered historical enough to be kept. Should be only one or two sentences long.
- talk
- Talk page title, preferably also with the title of a section discussing keeping it.
- date
- Date the template was added. While currently not shown it may aid maintenance.
- nocat
- If not empty the page will not be automatically categorized. Useful for demonstrative purposes.

Using the template on a page in the main/article namespace having no talk page and without any parameters:
