John F. Kennedy International Airport (IATA: JFK, ICTO: KJFK, FAA LID: JFK) is one of three international airports serving the New York City area. It is also the busiest international air passenger gateway to the U.S. Originally called Idlewild Airport, it has been renamed several times with names such as Major General Alexander E. Anderson Airport, New York International Airport, and Anderson Field. One month after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963, the airport's name was changed to John F. Kennedy International Airport. In 2009, about 45,915,069 passengers flew through JFK, making it the 12th busiest airport worldwide.
