The parachutist is a free-fall skydiver model. It was created by Creare (an RD company in Hanover, New Hampshire), with funding by the US Army, as to model and simulate the results from its Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD) toolkit for analyzing jumpers and their equipment. In April 2016, it was added to FGAddon.
Tutorial
The parachutist has two separate FDMs in one package which are both active when the parachute is deployed. With this combination you can now start a free fall descent at 12,500 feet, manoeuvre your way down to about 2,000-2,500 feet, deploy the parachute with the ⇧ Shift+d key and then glide your way down. At about 50 feet, pull down full to slow down the descent and gently touch the ground. A possible next step which has been suggested is to include the Walker model.
Erik is also currently working to adapt the ALS wingflex module (from the Dragon) for use by the parachutist[1].
