Hi fellow wiki editors!

To help newly registered users get more familiar with the wiki (and maybe older users too) there is now a {{Welcome to the wiki}} template. Have a look at it and feel free to add it to new users discussion pages (and perhaps your own).

I have tried to keep the template short, but meaningful. /Johan G

You're here because you've seen what FlightGear can do, and you want to create a new aircraft. Here's a primer on how the process works.

What's needed to create an aircraft?

There are several parts to a FlightGear aircraft. There's the visuals --- the 3D model, the associated sounds, and the cockpit; and there's the flight dynamics model, also known as the FDM, and the aircraft's mechanical systems (electrical, vacuum, static and pitot, etc.) These parts, while they may appear connected, are completely separate and interface with each other mainly through the property tree.
