This category need cleanup

It is not ideal that one would have to sift through the article titles, and sometimes the articles themselves to figure out which of the articles that actually are about core development projects.

I always thought that core development was about the the code for the FlightGear binary and the more essential configuration files needed for its setup. In essence I thought this category would be about ongoing and stalled development projects related to the binary, like for example improving the rendering pipeline. If so, this category is in deep need of cleanup and diffusion.

I would say that that only about 10-20% of the articles in this category currently is about development projects related to the FlightGear binary, as currently this category also include suggestions for projects, a lot (most?) of the Canvas development articles, and a multitude of articles about development of scenery tools, which rather should be in a subcategory to Category:Scenery software.

For a large part this seem to be caused by navigation templates using automatic categorization in a way that will cover any possible relevant category fitting any of the articles related to a subject. For example {{OSM Navigation}} currently will add Category:OpenStreetMap, Category:Core development projects, Category:Osm2city and Category:Python Software to pages in the main namespace (but not pages in the Howto namespace?), and {{Canvas Navigation}} will add Category:Canvas and Category:Core development projects to pages in the main namespace, or Category:Canvas and Category:Howto to pages in the Howto namespace.
