About us

Beginnings (December 2013/January 2014)

The idea of a North Italian controlled area was formed during the Christmas holidays. A small group of two or three ATC controllers (callsigns: USAF_AV, LIPX_TW and LIMCiss) controlled frequently in the same time respectively Aviano Air Base, Verona Villafranca Airport and Milan Malpensa Airport. After some time, J Maverick (USAF_AV) had an idea: creating an organization of ATC controllers to offer services in the Northern-Italy to pilots who fly in, from and to the local area. These three guys started working together to create a sort of organization. Different names were proposed such as LIPX-Triangle, inspired by the EDDF-Triangle in Germany. But then it was decided to involve more airports and the project's name became The Northern-Italy ATC Controlled Area (NIATCA).

Project announcement (January 2014/February 2014)

After working hard during the Christmas holidays and all January 2014, the project was announced to the public on February 1st on the FG Forum by ElGaton. At first, the airports involved were (casual order): LIPA, LIPX, LIMC, LIML, LIPQ, LSZS, LIPZ, LIME, LOWI, LIMF, LIMJ and LIPH. ATC sessions were planned every week, especially in the week-ends, when most of the airspace was controlled.
