While adding documentation I recommended that one should mention adding the template and the reasons for doing so in the edit summary. Would it be better to add that to the template as an parameter instead, or is the edit summary the right place? | |||

The category parameter
I was about to add documentation using the {{informative template}}. I can't really figure out what the {{{category}}} parameter does though. It actually doesn't seem to do anything!? Does anyone know what it does?

Adding a reason in the edit summary or as a parameter
While adding documentation I recommended that one should mention adding the template and the reasons for doing so in the edit summary. Would it be better to add that to the template as an parameter instead, or is the edit summary the right place?
