When building a new system or buying hardware for a computer that is specifically intended to run FlightGear, it seems like a good idea to avoid these cards and instead check out [[Hardware Recommendations]] or more specifically [[Supported Video Cards]].

Please note that even if you have one of these models, you may still be able to run FlightGear by disabling certain features, please check the forums for advice.
You might still be able to run FlightGear despite having a problematic video card/chip, but you will not be able to use certain features and/or decrease overall details. See [[Settings for slower graphics cards]] for a list of possible fixes and workarounds.
So, if you manage to run FlightGear with any of the cards listed here, please do feel free to update this page and preferably also list any relevant customizations or configuration settings that need to be applied.

Introduction

When building a new system or buying hardware for a computer that is specifically intended to run FlightGear, it seems like a good idea to avoid these cards and instead check out Hardware Recommendations or more specifically Supported Video Cards.

You might still be able to run FlightGear despite having a problematic video card/chip, but you will not be able to use certain features and/or decrease overall details. See Settings for slower graphics cards for a list of possible fixes and workarounds.

ATI

This is for models from ATI/AMD.

Linux

  • All legacy ATI Radeon GPUs before the ATI Radeon HD 5000 series, as official driver support for these has been dropped by AMD.
    • Older official drivers can still be installed on Linux, as long as a suitable, older version of the XServer is installed (which in turn might break compatibility with other, more up-to-date programs). It is advised to use the open source drivers.[1]
    • The open source drivers (Mesa+Gallium) for these cards do run FlightGear, but are considerably slower than the official versions.
