Early ideas

The main goal with having a style guide is to give users guidance about style with the goal of having a consistent style for each kind of page, with the intention that the consistency will aid in searching, reading, and referencing the wiki.

The only thing currently done in the style guide, apart from skeleton headings, is a typical article layout that is basically a summary of what most articles here looks like. There are however also:

  • Rapidly changing articles about the development of specific features
  • Templates
  • File information pages
  • Discussion pages

Apart from general disposition there is also a lot of other things to consider, like typography, linking, guidance for page, heading and template titles etc.

One important thing to consider already early on is that while consistency have many benefits, too tight regulations (would that even be possible in the FlightGear community?) will hamper creativity, and even more important for a project like this, may make potential contributors less inclined to do contribute.

Any opinions, thoughts and suggestions are most welcome.
