FlightGear Newsletter March 2018
We would like to emphasize that the monthly newsletter can not live without the contributions of FlightGear users and developers. Everyone with a wiki account (free to register) is welcome to contribute to the newsletter. If you know about any FlightGear related news or projects such as for example updated scenery or aircraft, please do feel invited to add such news to the newsletter.
YASim 2.0 development
YASim development tools is a set of tools created by forum's user D-JSB. (Note that JSB is related to the user name not with the other FDM that FlightGear can use).
D-JSB is working hard improving the YASim FDM system to the next level. His first approach to this work is coming canned as FGADDON. This first tool shows crucial information on run-time of a YASim FDM over a canvas screen. Masses and forces are shown. CG Center of Gravity and MAC Mean Aerodynamic Chord have now their own indicators.
- The project has a dedicated space in the wiki YASim Development Tools
- A forum thread for more details at https://forum.flightgear.org/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=33852
- And belongs to the category Addons
Stuart pushed some significant updates to the FG1000 to fgdata:
- Stuart added the PFD. Most of the instruments are functional. particularly pleased with the inset map (press the INSET softkey). Many thanks to Sebastian Marque who wrote thekv1000, and whose SVG and display code Stuart was about to re-use.
- Proper 3D instruments are now available, so the FG1000 can be added to the cockpit of aircraft. Many thanks to Jean-Paul Anceaux for these.
- Stuart cleaned up some of the interfaces so that you can easily create a UI dialog that mirrors one of the aircraft PFD/MFDs.
There's still a lot of work to do, but it's now suitable for VFR flying, and getting close to the stage where there's sufficient function working that a user could use it for IFR flying, if not editing IFR flightplans.

In March there have been many contributions to AI traffic. Gooneybird modelled the Bombardier Global 5000. SP-KOK worked thorough airline schedules and Ian (BecOzlcan) contributed new detailed AI liveries. They added a dozen small airlines this month and made FlightGear more realistic, colorful and lively. You can follow their work and contribute at the FlightGear AI forums.

The FlightGear project always needs screenshots, which show features that were added since the last release. These should be of good quality, especially in content and technical image properties. It is therefore recommended to use the best viable filter settings (anti-aliasing, texture sharpening, etc.). More info at Howto:Make nice screenshots.
