Stuart has been doing some further work on the FG1000 implementation over the christmas break 2017. Key changes are:
# Using Richard's [[Emesary]] IPC frame to link between the MFD and underlying simulation state. This should make it easy to run the MFD on a separate FG instance, and provides a good demarkation between the individual aircraft systems and the FG1000 itself.
# Create various underlying classes to support UI features - highlighting, editing. The idea here is that one can create the UI as an SVG file, and these are used to control it. For an example of this in use, see the Airport Information page. Press the CRSR knob to create a cursor on the ICAO airport ID, then use the inside FMS knob to start editing the ID. This should make creating most of the rest of the pages far easier. See [[Canvas MFD Framework]] for details of the elements now supported.
There's still a huge number of pages to write, and the pages around route planning will likely be particular "fun", but it should be far faster now these blocks are in place.
The [[FG1000]] wiki page shows the pages that have been created so far (4 out of 28!). Stuart is pretty happy with the overall architecture now, so if anyone wants to create some of the pages they are very welcome to do so!<ref>{{cite web  |url    =  https://sourceforge.net/p/flightgear/mailman/message/36179339/  |title  =  <nowiki> Re: [Flightgear-devel] FG1000 Status Update </nowiki>  |author =  <nowiki> Stuart Buchanan </nowiki>  |date  =  Jan 5th, 2018  |added  =  Jan 5th, 2018  |script_version = 0.36  }}</ref>

FG1000 Updates

PUI-canvas FG1000 early prototype using PUI dialog to speed up development

Stuart has been doing some further work on the FG1000 implementation over the christmas break 2017. Key changes are:

  1. Using Richard's Emesary IPC frame to link between the MFD and underlying simulation state. This should make it easy to run the MFD on a separate FG instance, and provides a good demarkation between the individual aircraft systems and the FG1000 itself.
  2. Create various underlying classes to support UI features - highlighting, editing. See Canvas MFD Framework for details of the elements now supported.

There's still a huge number of pages to write, and the pages around route planning will likely be particular "fun", but it should be far faster now these blocks are in place.

The FG1000 wiki page shows the pages that have been created so far (4 out of 28!). Stuart is pretty happy with the overall architecture now, so if anyone wants to create some of the pages they are very welcome to do so![1]

AI

Updated AI Traffic 2017

Throughout 2017 many members of the community have been busy developing AI Traffic, AI Aircraft, and AI Liveries, including SP-KOK and BecOzlacan (Ian). Both of these have been very active and the community has been able to:

  • Add various lighting effects to AI aircraft
  • Update TAROM, Wizzair, Rossiya, UTair, Jet2, Air Transat, Belavia, Qatar , TAP Portugal, Swiss, Helvetic, Austrian, HOP, AirSerbia, British Airways, LOT, Thai Airways, and Czech Airlines among others
  • Add Santa Barbara, EL AL, Travel Service, Kuwait, Air Baltic, Montenegro Airlines, Loganair, Wideroe, Fly Dubai, Norwegian, and Blue Air

We look forward to seeing what the community can achieve in 2018!

Cquote1.png Making traffic files is the perfect place for you to get your feet wet on contributing to FlightGear. There is plenty of documentation about it. You have all the existing traffic files as reference material and examples of the finished product. They are only XML format text files that contain the routes. Go for it, I'm sure the contributors that currently do a lot of this would be more than happy to verify that your work is up to standards and help you get it committed to fgdata. [2]

OSM

Since FlightGear version 2017.2, FlightGear has a greater support of OSM data within FlightGear. Some parts of the world now have OSM2CITY data in Terrasync, while others remain custom sceneries. Some of these custom sceneries include:

Other areas with OSM data can be found at [wiki page].

D-ECHO and his work

D-ECHO has created various custom sceneries througout 2017 for many different areas. They can all be found at his GitHub page, including:

  • Helgoland
  • Guadeloupe, Dominica, Montserrat, Antigua and Barbuda
  • Windward Islands
  • Lucia and Martinique
  • TNCS
  • Azores
  • Parts of Norway, including the Sogne and Fjordane, the Lofoten and the area around Oslo
  • Many others

The Azores are available on TerraSync with the long-term goal of having every of the custom sceneries available via TerraSync.

Screenshots

On route to Nyingchi

If you want to participate in the screenshot contest of January 2018, you can submit your candidate to this forum topic. Be sure to see the first post for participation rules. For purposes of convenience and organization, after all the entries have been submitted, a new forum topic will be started containing all shots in an easy-to-view layout. The voting will then take place there. Once the voting has finished, the best screenshot will be presented in the Newsletter edition of January 2018

Screenshot(s) of the Year 2017

The contest this year had many great screenshots, making it a difficult choice! The poll eventually ended in a tie, with the two winning screenshots being...
